If you have Medicare, a new Medicare card is headed your way. Here in Oregon, the cards are being delivered now through July. Your new card will have a new Medicare ID number on it, instead of your Social Security number. This will make it harder for scammers to steal your identity or file false claims.
Important reminders:
- The card will go to your address on file with the Social Security Administration. If your address has changed, update it at https://www.ssa.gov/myaccount/ or call 1-800-772-1213 (toll-free)
- Medicare will not call and ask for personal information, including whether you got your card
- The new card is FREE, so if someone calls and tries to charge you for a card, hang up. It is a scam.
- When you get your new Medicare card, destroy your old card.
- If you’re unsure that the card you receive is legitimate, call 1-800-MEDICARE.
